TODD RUNDGREN VS LINDSTROM - "A QUIET PLACE TO LIVE"

So now we're back on here at Yours, I'm working through all the shit I was supposed to post two weeks ago. First up is this monster remix of Lindstrøm's "A Quiet Place To Live", by none-other than master eclecticon, pop-wunderkind, producer-supreme and all-round good egg Todd Rundgren.

I first heard TR a few years ago, when watching Daft Punk's "Electroma" (which is brilliant). The first scene with DP driving that sweet-ass Ferrari 412 in the desert over the opening chords of "International Feel", was like an arrow of armour-piercing light in my addled mind.

However, subsequent trawling through his back cat proved... disappointing (I'm sure MOJO readers would disagree). Production work notwithstanding, his solo work just seemed a bit uh, 'wacky' for me. Last time out I tried to get through "Healing" (1981) and I just thought 'oh fuck this'. Obviously he heard about this, and decided to make a fucking great dance record to teach me a lesson.

This remix - his first - of "A Quiet Place To Live" is completely ridiculous - not 'ridikuloz' like on T4 - actually stupid. And that's why it's amazing. The intro gives you a little taster into the prog-y horizon your aural boat is sailing into, but then it settles into a minimal tech-house groove that wouldn't look out of place on a Kitsuné mixtape. And if that was the whole track you'd be fine with it. But then at 3:45 you realise you've actually sailed into a Nordic ice cave surrounded by crystal minor chords. And by the time Falcor arrives you've already danced yourself into a prism.

"A Quiet Place To Live" is out now.

And you can keep up to date with Todd, at literally the world's ugliest website, which of course he made himself. www.tr-i.com That's him at the top, dressed like Neo from "The Matrix". Ugh.
