KILIAN ENG BLEW MY MIND A LITTLE
Ah the wonders of the Google search. If your job involves the word 'research' at any point, chances are you're familiar with the treasure-trove delights the search engine du jour throws up. Most searches - irrespective of whatever word you use - will eventually return a picture of naked breasts. But every now and then, interspersed inbetween images of cats playing musical instruments, your mind might get sneak attacked with awesomeness. This was the case when a search for 'retro website' threw up the image above.
The hand that lovingly crafted this creative fusion of 80s quasi-futurist surrealism and "Transformers The Movie", belongs to a illustrator and artist named Kilian Eng. Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, seems like young Mr Eng has been knocking around for awhile, having produced visuals for acts such as Miami Horror & Tesla Boy, magazines including Digital Arts, Playboy, Eight Magazine, and many others.
According to his bio, his work is mostly digital now, having discovered a comfortable synthesis between traditional and progressive mediums. His work appears both retro and totally modernist, walking a fine hand-drawn line between architecture, imagination and technology. There's a fair bit of the late Jean Giraud in there too - but we'll get to his particular genius in a bit (Jeff?).
Check out his main site here. His output rate is nuts, with a seemingly endless array of prints, sketches and animation - just look out for them next time you Google 'tits'.
